Inspiration Wall

Inspiration:
1. The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.

Recently I have been looking through books about creating a fashion line and as I am reading them most of them start off with a mood board, which is a board where you paste pictures and ideas that will inspire you when creating a new line for your collection. As not all lines start like this i find that it is a really nice way to condense all the ideas and start focusing on one specific idea. How that relates to art is that sometimes art pieces can inspire designers to create specific clothing in their lines.
Now what how it relates to what I have done this month, is that I have started a mood wall that inspires me to create and try new things, in either what I am creating or what I am wearing. My mood wall is an easy way to take everything that is going threw my mind and place it somewhere I can think about and help on expanding what I know and what I don't.

The whole idea is to get pieces that you find interesting and finding a way to incorporate them in clothing.

Inspiration is everywhere you just have to keep your eyes open.

Update:News on Imelda

Well I see that you can't get enough of me can you..
Anyways I was recently thinking about some of the work I do as a style intern on a online blog and as I am new to the online blogging world, I have realized that the work I usually do isn't that exciting. All I have done is styled pieces from an online store. I have looked at other fashion blogs and started paying attention to the things that they do besides styling clothes, and I saw that I have to step up my game. I know that these bloggers have more experience, so I'm not too nervous (okay a bit).
Example 1 of my work
Example 2 of my work

The point of this was to bring to the table, that fashion is not only made up of playing dress up. When trying to have a successful fashion blog there has to be stories behind the clothes and new ideas being made on your screen.

Blog 10 :EQ

1.
"I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ."

2.
a.   Yes it does follow the rule of three, because I can't answer it with a yes or no. It say healthy weight loss ,instead of just weight loss. The wording makes sense.
b.  Yes, even as it just says "most important" and there can be a lot of things that can lead to securing a conviction sentence it leaves it broad enough to have different opinions. It also is talking about a conviction a criminal sentence instead of just saying any random case.
c.  No because customer is always right and as a hairstylist you have to give the customer what they want. Also not much depth can be made out of the question.
d.  Yes, because it specific and it follows the rule if three.

3. What qualities does fashion have that make it art ?

Blog 9 :Lesson 1 Reflection

Lesson 1 Reflection:

1. Positive Statement:
I am most proud of how I used my sources cited in my presentation. I feel like having reliable sources like thee ones I had helped improve the presentation.
2. Questions to Consider:
a. I would give myself an AP.
b. I know I did my lesson and it was well planed out but my nerves got the best of me and I lost it as soon as I go up there. Even though I used my contract to get most of the key points that I needed to include I didn't make the time and I repeated myself.
3. I liked how I was able to set up my plan and try to show people something different.
4.Practiced so much more and would have been prepared with many more visuals, since art is a visual contempt.

Extra Blog for October: What is Imelda doing...

I do part of my mentorship at Latino Art Museum. I have been asked why here and not a fashion internship, well I believe that in order to answer my essential question I have to understand how both sides of the coin work. By that I mean that I have to understand the process of a  painter as well as fashionista. At the museum I get to talk with the painters about their work and what got them to do what they do. my next post will be about fashionistas and their work.
Here is some of the work that was shown this month at LAM:

Blog 8 :Research and Working EQ

1 and 2.
My working EQ is: How can fashion be considered an art?

  • Some of the basic knowledge that must be understood when talking about fashion and art, is Feelings and Creativity.
  • Feelings are an important part when creating and appreciating fashion and art.
  • Creativity makes fashion and art be a way to express oneself.

3. One of the most important source that I have used has been an article I have read which is called "Is Fashion Art" by Jechow Elyssa because not only did it give me ideas on what to read next, but it gave me specific examples that I have not thought about.

4. I have two mentors, my first mentor is Graciela Nardi and she is an artist and museum owner. She helps me out by showing me the tricks to sustain a successful museum and what it is like to be part of the artist community. I plan to use this information to compare it to a successful clothing store. My second mentor is Sara Palacios , I meet her through Graciela and Sarah has shown me how easily art and fashion can relate. She has experience in the fashion industry as she does in the art world.

Blog 7 : Independent Component 1 Approval

Art Fashion:

I plan on starting a Fashion Club (which has already been approved) with Malorie Wolfe. We will have meetings Wednesdays during lunch in Ms.Edwards room, Ms. Edwards being our adviser. It is going to be a supportive community where the similar interest of fashion is shared. We will have activities to expand in what fashion really is, how to be comfortable with what you wear, and ect.

As for art, I am planning on taking a college class on painting. In this class we are going to think outside the box as our teacher shows us multiple techniques on painting. I will be taking this class  now until December.

To keep organized and on top of things in the Fashion Club we are going to keep a binder with all activities and plans for the club. I will take pictures during our activities and maybe even start  a social media account. My art class will have us doing projects and I will take pictures of my pieces and things I have learned.

In having a Fashion Club not only will I be able to take a glimpse in how multiple people perceive fashion but I will also get to share with them information that I have learned.  Learning what people think of fashion can help me answer the question on why fashion isn't known as an art. My art class can help me learn much more about expression and also help me learn more about painting. My knowledge on painting is limited therefore this class can help find new ways that art can be interpreted .

Fashion Week:

Recently I have seen all over the internet the rave over Fashion Week. I knew that Fashion Week consisted of designers showing their new collections to the public, but I didn't know where the idea came from.

In this website you can get a brief History on Fashion Week. Enjoy!

Blog 5: Mentorship Reflection

Research

1. Mentorship Question:
I think getting your foot in the fashion industry especially at a young age  is hard but not impossible. I am still on the look out for a fashion mentor that can help me with all of my questions I have on the fashion industry. I do have contact with my last fashion mentor but I have to catch up with her to see if she is still up to continue her help.In the other hand my art mentor has been there since the start to help me out with any questions I throw at her and helps me by showing me a bit of what she does and who she is in the art community.

2. Research Question:
So far my most important articles have been The History of American Fashion and What is Art by Leo Tolstoy. I really wanted to know the  history of american fashion and what has brought us so many types of styles and fabrics. It gave me the info that I needed without being too over whelming with information. Meanwhile Leo's work makes me question what art is and what beauty is theses are the two questions he has slightly mentioned so far.. It has given me an incite to the questioning that many philosophers have asked themselves and that would be What is considered art and what isn't ?

Who said old isn't in?

Shareen's Vintage: No Boys Allowed- Off the Easel Video  (Click on the Link)
(No boys allowed in her store)

After watching this video one must recognize two different things, one that fashion doesn't have to start from a sketch and two, that fashion has infinite possibilities. I found out about Shareen's clothing process through a website that included a quick segment of Shareen's work. I got a bit excited after watching it because even though I knew about revamping vintage clothing , nothing can really compete with the level she has taken it to. She looks through thousands of vintage dresses per day, to then take them to her store and make them into something on trend. More than anything I would really want to emphasize that one shouldn’t just take clothing off the rack as it is, but realize that there are endless possibilities to make it our own, and show off our individual style.

Bridget Murphy    (Nordstrom Fashion Board)

 What questions were raised....
How do you get this much amount of artists to participate at an Art Gallery Charity event ?
    (LAM)

What do you do to support the artists that are part of your community ? (LAM)

What are the usual steps in creating a fashion line ? (Fashion)

What do you need to do in order to connect with a costumer when styling them for an event ? (Fashion)

As a starter when opening your clothing line what must one do in order to succeed ?
       (Fashion)

Most  Important Thing from this Experience:
From the art gallery I learned how people can inspire one and another to make the world a better place and to also create masterpieces by each other's influences. I also learned how the support from your friends and family is very valuable and should be cherished.
From the fashion board meeting I got to experience other people's aspirations in the fashion world. I got to see how we share a bit of ourselves from what we put on our body.

      Senior Project:
I want my senior project to be about being able to show how fashion is a form of art and not thinking that art is on a wall and fashion is just clothes. I chose this topic because both of these two world are extremely important to me and I want to show people the wonderful possibilities that they have combined. Besides that I feel that everyone is capable of creating something that helps them show the world who they are.

      Questions..

How was the summer mentorship included in the presentation and what does it do for the whole process?
Also I heard something about how college classes count as something I am just not sure what.

      Most Important Part...

I feel that the most important part was to actually like what your doing, I saw a few that where not as interested in the subject they were talking about so they didn't care as much.

      Topic I am Considering...

I really want to find something in the fashion industry since I am going to work there in the future, why not start as early as possible.

What am I doing for summer mentorship...

I am not sure yet but I have applied to many internship positions as I can, I could use some help to find something.
